Free Download Of The Week: Hippo Campus

“There’s a moment in growing up when it becomes clear that the road you walk is your own to cultivate.” A surprisingly profound sentiment for a band of 21-year olds. Nevertheless, it’s a sentiment that animates much of landmark, the debut album from Minneapolis’ Hippo Campus. Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Jake Luppen, guitarist/vocalist Nathan Stocker, bassist Zach Sutton, and drummer Whistler Allen, their pair of 2015 EPs, Bashful Creatures and South catapulted the group into the national spotlight. Free Download Of The Week: The Wild Reeds

Finding one great singer is hard enough, but The Wild Reeds have found three. Kinsey Lee, Sharon Silva and Mackenzie Howe swap lead vocal duties and harmonies with each other beautifully. The Los Angles based group has been gaining momentum and will release The World We Built April 7th. “Only Songs” was written by Howe, and highlights her rock-centric approach, inspired by the ’60s and ’70s rock songs her mother raised her on. “It’s about the feeling that music gives you,” she says. “There’s a freedom in music found nowhere else and it doesn’t discriminate, it’s in the garage and the cathedral.” Download “Only Songs” off The World We Built and learn more about The Wild Reeds at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Free Download Of The Week: White Reaper

Louisville’s White Reaper makes a bold statement with their second album, The World’s Best American Band. When asked about the title, guitarist/vocalist Tony Esposito said, “Because we are the best. Just like Muhammad Ali was the greatest, you gotta say it out loud for people to believe it. We didn’t make this record or start this band because we wanted to come across in a single, certain way. We just make records that we’d want to hear. We started doing this because it’s fun as hell, just as much now as it was when we were 14.” Download “Judy French” off The World’s Best American Band and learn more about White Reaper at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

Free Download Of The Week: Son Volt

Son Volt

Townes Van Zandt once said, “There are only two kinds of songs. There’s the blues, and there’s zip-a-dee-doo-dah.” Son Volt took that quote to heart and titled their 9th album Notes Of Blue. Lead singer Jay Farrar says, “For years I’ve been drawn to the passion, common struggle and possibility for redemption that’s always been a part of the blues. Everyone has to pay the rent and get along with their significant others, so many of the themes are universal. For me, the blues fills that void that’s there for religion, really. That’s the place I turn to be lifted up.” Download “Back Against The Wall” off Notes Of Blue and learn more about Son Volt at their Official Website, “Like” them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.
