Soft Machine

Soft Machine is widely considered by critics to have been very influential in rock music, with AllMusic describing them as “one of the more influential bands of their era, and certainly one of the most influential underground ones”.

SOFT MACHINE is a legend and an institution of British music, a band who has included a who’s who of legendary musicians over five decades:

Robert Wyatt, Daevid Allen, Mike Ratledge, Kevin Ayers, Andy Summers (later of The Police), Hugh Hopper, Elton Dean, Roy Babbington, John Etheridge, John Marshall, Karl Jenkins, Allan Holdsworth, Percy Jones, Rick Sanders, Dave McRae and Jack Bruce among others (Jimi Hendrix briefly jammed with the band in 1968!).

Various incarnations of the band, with varying line-ups of members, kept the flame alive in the 21st century.

The band continues to feature guitarist John Etheridge (with the band since 1975), Theo Travis on reeds and keyboard (with the band for the past decade, previously a member of GONG), Fred Thelonius Baker on bass and Asif Sirkis on percussion.
