David Bowie

WTTS mourns the passing of a true legend and moving force in the music industry. David Bowie passed away Sunday, January 10th after an 18-month battle with cancer. Blackstar, David’s 25th and final album, was just released on January 8th.

At WTTS, Paul Mendenhall was fortunate to have had the opportunity to interview David Bowie in 2004. Listen to his conversation below.

I was 13 years old when “Let’s Dance” was released. In seeing my interest in the album, my youth group leader, Al, encouraged me to look into David Bowie’s previous albums & that’s when I discovered the true genius that he was. Over the years many people have tried to imitate his style, his flair, but there was only one original that no one could match. Anyone who is a true music lover would understand the magic that was in the heart and soul of David Bowie’s music. It wasn’t just something to listen to & tap your foot along to the beat, it embodied the world & everyone in it, no matter who you were: ordinary, beautiful or different… wallflower, popular or eccentric: there was something in his music that spoke to nearly everyone. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family, friends, colleagues & the millions of fans the world over who mourn the passing of a man that made us see & hear music in a way that would impact us the rest of our lives. RIP…
