Photographer Jim Marshall (1936-2010)

1 Comment 25 March 2010

Photographer Jim Marshall has died at the age of 74. You might not know his name, but as with many great photographers, his work is as familiar as your own family snapshots. From the Fab Four taking to the stage for their last concert ever, to a backstage shot that would become the cover of The Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East, to Johnny Cash flipping the bird at San Quentin Prison we experienced rock history through Jim Marshall’s lens up to the artists of today including John Mayer and Ben Harper. His career extended well beyond rock and roll to iconic photos of jazz legends and photojournalism assignments in Mississippi during the Civil Rights movement. Jim Marshall died in his sleep in New York City.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Jim Marshall. I am familiar with the Johnny Cash “bird” photo. What great access and as a fellow photographer that is all you ask for. Thanks for the link and and all music info that WTTS gives us here in Indiana.
